Charity hockey game to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy
The guys in uniform are swapping their badges for ice skates and hockey sticks.
On Sunday, May 15, the Siouxland Police, Fire Departments, EMS, and Military personnel will be taking each other on in “Battle of the Badges,” a charity hockey game to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to finding a cure for muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases.
There will be a tailgate and barbecue in the IBP Ice Center parking lot preceding the game; attendees will be able to purchase burgers, brats, and hot dogs from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The Sioux City Fire and Rescue and Siouxland Paramedics, Inc. will also be giving tours of their rigs during this hour.
An open skate will follow from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for $5. Children age 4 and under are free. Guests may bring their own skates or rent skates for $3. At 3 p.m., recreational skaters will be expected to clear the ice to make room for the first annual “Battle of the Badges” game, for which admission is free.
“Battle of the Badges” and its pregame activities will take place at IBP Ice Center on 3808 Stadium Dr. from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
