05 Things to do in Sioux City in August
Are you feeling sad that summer has almost come to an end?
Chin up, friends. There is still plenty of fun to be had in Sioux City before autumn falls upon us. We’re even going to make it easy for you, and give you five of the coolest things that you can do this month.
You’re welcome.
#1: Tommy Bolin Fan Jams
The annual Tommy Bolin music festival is a big deal, but before you check that out (2pm – midnight, August 3rd at the Icky Nickel), you can take part in something just as cool – the fan jams. The Tommy Bolin Fan Jams are tradition for this annual festival, and they give fans a chance to play with other musicians who are familiar with Tommy Bolin’s work. It’s completely free and BYOG (Bring Your Own Guitar).
The fan jams will take place August 1st and 2nd at the Rodeway Inn and Conference Center from 9pm to closing. For details, check out the website.
#2: Michael Dunbar Sculptures
Soon, you’ll be able to drive by the Sioux City Art Center and enjoy a 14-foot masterpiece standing in the front lawn. It’s called ‘Touched by the Sun’ and its creator, Michael Dunbar, has 20 other sculptures – including a miniature version of ‘Touched by the Sun’ – on display inside. His exhibition will run through the entire month of August, until October 13th.
The Sioux City Art Center, and the Michael Dunbar Sculpture Exhibition, are open free to the public. The business hours can be found on the website.

For those of you with younger children – or if you’re just young at heart yourself – Big Time Rush and Victoria Justice will be performing on August 9th. And for all the country fans out there, Rascal Flatts and The Band Perry will be coming our way on August 18th.
