Pet of the Week – Jackie O.

Jackie O is a small lab mix, about 2 years old and weighs less the 25 pounds. She had a very rough start in life. When Noah’s Hope rescued her, she was living outside in a fenced yard with 20 other dogs and puppies. They had one doghouse.

The yard looked like a minefield because the dogs had dug holes everywhere, and they were sleeping in them to get out of the elements. One female had puppies, and she tried to protect them by keeping them in a hole, but it didn’t work. None survived. (NHAR has now rescued all but a couple of them, and we will go back for the last of this group.)

This despair happened because the owners had two dogs, a male and a female, and they didn’t spay and neuter.

The good news from this situation is that Jackie O is a lovely dog. She’s cute and the perfect size. She likes to play with all the other dogs and the resident cat in her foster home. She is learning to like and look for love from her foster family. Her reserve is understandable. She had limited interaction with people in her previous life, but she has come a long way in her foster home and will continue to bloom with the right family. It may take a while for Jackie to trust her new people, but once she does she will show what a loyal friend she can be.

Because of her past (and lack of training), she will need a fenced yard and will need consistency in her house training.
