0Noah’s Hope: Our Tiny Miracle
Rescue is a roller coaster. One minute you’re high with joy; the next you could be in a pit of heartache. We’ve had our share of pits lately (pardon the pun).
A beloved pit bull named Buddy passed away last week. He had been in our system for a little over two years. He was surrendered to us because someone in the neighborhood where he lived hit him with a blunt instrument, and the blow caved in his skull above his eye. His owner knew he needed help. With the vet care we gave him, he was able to live a normal, happy life, but ultimately his injury took its toll.
At the same time that we received the sad news about Buddy, we heard some wonderful news about another pit bull named Tiny Tim. Tim came to Noah’s Hope in December as a newborn. He was surrendered because he was born with useless back legs. He couldn’t stand or walk, and seeing him drag himself around was truly heartbreaking. In most cases, dogs like Tim are euthanized, but his people wanted to see if we could do anything to help this boy.
We took him to our vets and learned that he did not have any broken bones. They told us with physical therapy he would show improvement quickly if his legs were capable of rehabilitation. Jean Gill, who runs Four Paws Fitness and Rehab (www.fourpawsfitnessandrehab.com), evaluated Tiny Tim. The outcome was not good. Jean saw that his disability was permanent and that he would never walk.
Even knowing the extent of his disability, Tim’s foster mom did not give up hope. She began searching for a sanctuary that could take Tiny Tim, and something led her to SAFE Sanctuary, located in the Minneapolis area. They accepted Tiny Tim into their program, and he will live the rest of his life there.
And thanks to them, he will be able to move around on his own. Tim already has been fitted for a doggie wheelchair, and he’s zooming around the place like any puppy would.
Some people think it’s silly to save disabled animals, but we choose life in all its wonder whenever there is a chance. In the words of Dickens’ Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one.”
We’d like to say a heartfelt thank-you to Jean Gill and to our vets at Siouxland Animal Hospital for the amazing care they give all of our dogs.

Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. We rescue the underdogs: the old, the sick and injured, the used-up by breeders, the forsaken and misunderstood. We nurse them, bring them back from the brink, and give them another chance. We believe they make the very best pets because somehow, they understand and are grateful.
