0Noah’s Hope: Wrinkles Update
Mr. Wrinkles
On May 21st we introduced you to Wrinkles, our pet of the week. As promised, we would like to give you a progress report. We’ll take you back to the beginning with firsthand observations straight from his foster home where he is loving life!
When the phone call came it was very unexpected. A regional shelter had admitted a stray that was one day away from being dead. Beyond skin and bones, he weighed half what he should have weighed. The vertebrae in his back were so pronounced they looked like a mountain range with hipbones jutting out in severe peaks. He had vacant, sunken eyes and teeth that were in such poor condition his age was estimated at four year old. His skin was so dry, crusty and loose the shelter named him Wrinkles.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, he was almost bald from a severe case of mange. His back was covered with scabs and open wounds caused by his frantic attempts to relieve the itching. Black skin remained on the tips of his ears from frostbite, making it clear that some of the suffering he endured was during the cold winter months.
One has to ask: how long did it take for him to deteriorate to such an awful condition? It was soon discovered that this boy was only seven months old. This misery was all he had ever known.
So the shelter called Noah’s Hope and asked for our help. In true networking fashion, the volunteers of Noah’s Hope rallied together, as we always do. After three days of IV fluids, Wrinkles was strong enough to make the trip to Sioux City. One of our volunteers was able to make the drive to pick this boy up. A second volunteer was able to handle the intake processing, while another was able to get him to our vets at Siouxland Animal Hospital for evaluation and testing. Finally he was able to make his way to the foster home that was able to make room for him.
In the weeks that have followed Wrinkles has flourished. With medical care he has gained weight, his skin is healing and his fur is growing back. He is now the energetic, mischievous puppy he was meant to be. He loves to run and play, and loves everybody, both critters and humans. He is curious about everything and is fascinated by the world. And he is smart! He learned the potty thing in four days, and he is good in a crate. He is very food driven, for obvious reasons, and he will do anything for a treat.
Stay tuned to Noah’s Hope because in a few weeks this guy will be ready for his fur-ever home. He has just a few more wrinkles to iron out first. (Pun intended, of course.)

Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. We rescue the underdogs: the old, the sick and injured, the used-up by breeders, the forsaken and misunderstood. We nurse them, bring them back from the brink, and give them another chance. We believe they make the very best pets because somehow, they understand and are grateful.
