Art Center Announces Return of ‘Art Star’ Program

The Sioux City Art Center is announcing the return of its program, Be an Art Star and Win!, held in conjunction with its series of Family Guide publications.

Participants can win prizes simply by having fun at the Art Center and completing one or more of five self-guided Family Guide tours. Each colorful Family Guide, featuring work from the Art Center’s Permanent Collection, is based on a different theme, including: Family Life at Home; Landscapes; Animals in Art; Images of Things; and Colors and Shapes.

For each Family Guide completed, participants will be allowed to select a prize and keep the booklet for their home library. In addition, his or her, or family name will be added to the Wall of Fame, in the Art Center’s atrium, designated as an Artist.

After all five guides are completed his or her, or family name will be added to the Wall of Fame and designated as an Art Star.

Those who earn Art Stars are eligible for:
• a prize drawing held the last Saturday of each month from June – August
• the grand prize drawing of $250 to be held Sunday, September 1 at 1 p.m. at the Art Center’s ArtSplash

This program is part of the Art Center’s commitment to raising the visibility and community ownership of its outstanding Permanent Art Collection. “There are times when parents and grandparents might feel uncertain about how to engage children in an art setting,” says Art Center Curator Todd Behrens. “By placing some works in our collection into straightforward categories, along with questions and information, we hope to make visiting the Art Center as relaxing and rewarding as possible.”

The Art Center’s Director Al Harris-Fernandez added, “While the Guide targets families, all our visitors are welcome to participate in the program by taking one or all of the self-guided tours.”

The Program has been underwritten by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the M. A. Martin Everist Foundation.
