Kick off the holiday season tonight in downtown Sioux City with an evening full of activities for the entire family.

The 2013 Holiday Lighted Parade will start at 6:15 on 4th and Iowa Streets and jingle its way down 4th Street. Santa will light up the holiday tree at 6:45 at 4th and Nebraska Streets (The Sioux City Public Museum). By 7:00 p.m. Santa will make his way to Santa’s House at 416 5th Street where children can present him with their wish list, take pictures and warm up with some hot cider and cookies. The lighted parade is presented by The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 231.

This evening will also mark the opening night of the Festival of Trees at the Ho-Chunk Centre atrium, 600 4th Street, starting at 6:45 with the Grace United Methodist Church’s Solid Brass Bell Choir, followed by Ballet Sioux and much more. Trees will be on display from Nov. 25 – Dec. 5. The 2013 tree auction will be held on Dec. 5 with proceeds going to the Siouxland Paramedics, a non-profit organization that will use the money to purchase Auto Pulse backboards, used to assist with CPR.

During the holiday season, Santa’s House will be open from Nov. 30 – Dec. 22 on Thursdays from 6pm-8pm, Saturdays from 10am-4pm and on Sundays from 12pm-4pm.

Other sponsors of the festivities include the City of Sioux City; the ABM Parking Services; and American Family Insurance – Todd Stanley Agency and the Sioux City Public Museum for their involvement with the holiday trees.
