0NAIA volleyball tournament opens Tuesday
Every year, Sioux City plays host to some of the finest sporting championships in the nation. This week, the city hosts the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, or NAIA, Volleyball Championship tournament, which brings dozens of teams to town to compete for the national title.
From Tuesday through Saturday, expect aces, kills and fast-paced volleys on 3 nets set up in the Tyson Events Center. When it’s all done Saturday night, an NAIA Division II champion will be crowned.
Event sponsors are J&L Staffing and Recruiting and the CNOS Foundation.
Here’s how it works: The top eleven seeds, in addition to host school Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, will receive a bye in the opening round matches, which run Tuesday through Thursday. Twelve champions from last weekend’s National Championship Opening Round will join those top twelve schools to round out the field of 24 teams.
The top two teams from each pool advance to the single-elimination bracket starting Friday. The championship match will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Tyson Events Center.
Fans can see the games live at the Tyson Events Center. Adult Tournament passes are $35 for the entire tournament and students and faculty are $25. Single day passes are $10 for adults and $5 for students and faculty with an ID.
Or, if you can’t make the games or just want to watch online, NeuLion, the NAIA’s official video-streaming service, will broadcast all 47 matches of the Volleyball National Championship online. Single day streaming packages can be purchased for $9.95, while an all-tournament streaming pass is available for $24.95. For more information on streaming services, log on to NAIA.org.
