0A Night of Americana at Vangarde Arts
This Saturday, two of the countries top Americana performers will perform together at Vangarde Arts, 420 Jackson St. Kevin Gordon and Amelia White, take the stage at 8 p.m.
White has recorded with Lucinda Williams, and artists such as Levon Helm and Colin Linden have recorded his incredible lyrics. And Keith Richards and The Band covered his “Deuce And A Quarter.”
His stage presence and master of the guitar have made him one of the most captivating artists in America.
He’s been dubbed a “Southern Springsteen” and the singing Poet Laureate of the South, for his poetic lyrics.
He has a masters degree in poetry, and is a graduate of the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He is currently on tour performing his latest album “Gloryland,” his first in seven years.
Amelia White will kick off the show with her sultry folk rock tunes.
White’s love for music started very early. She was just 10 when she saved up her allowance to buy a guitar her brother had brought home from his Navy days, a 1968 Martin D-18 she still uses to this day. “I started writing quite young,” she says. “And sometimes people think I’m spacey, but that’s because these songs will not let go of me.”
“I knew what I wanted at a young age. I listened over and over to my brothers records: Neil Young, Beatles, Stones, and Muddy Waters, and I wanted to know them all, I wanted to be them,” she says.
She is currently touring in support of her latest album Old Postcard. “There’s grit to the record, not just in some of the louder guitars or the world-weariness of lyrics, but also in the way the East Nashville-based singer and songwriter finds hope despite life’s travails and shortcomings,” reads her website bio.
Tickets only $10 in advance and $15 day of show.
