Pets of the Week – Lucky and Topper

Pets of the Week - Lucky & TopperLucky and Topper are 3-year-old purebred yellow labs, probably brothers, with all of the amazing qualities associated with the breed. They are such great dogs it’s impossible to understand why their former owner treated them so badly. When they were rescued, they were near death from starvation. Lucky and Topper vomited rocks and debris for a day after they were saved. It’s all they had to eat.

Now both boys are gaining weight and learning what it’s like to be dogs instead of prisoners. When Lucky was reunited with Topper, the two of them raced around the yard getting reacquainted.

The boys have very different personalities. Topper is affectionate and fun-loving. Lucky is more reserved. He runs the fence line, perhaps mimicking the pacing he did when he lived in a pen. We think Lucky will warm up given time and affection. It is unlikely that either dog has ever felt love. Both boys need basic training and must learn house manners for life in their forever homes, which means any potential adopter must be prepared to go through the training with them.

Lucky and Topper get along great with other dogs and passed their cat tests with flying colors. They have microchips and are current on shots. They have not been neutered yet, but will be before adoption. Each has an adoption fee of $135. They do not have to be adopted together. If you want to welcome one or both of these boys into your home, please call Deanna at 712-253-8394. Or visit our Facebook page or website for more information:

Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. We rescue the underdogs: the old, the sick and injured, the used-up by breeders, the forsaken and misunderstood. We nurse them, bring them back from the brink, and give them another chance. We believe they make the very best pets because somehow, they understand and are grateful.
