Rare books featured at Peirce Mansion book sale

Peirce mansion book sale

Nineteenth and twentieth century books, including rare first editions and books by famous authors are featured in the Peirce Mansion Antique and Used Book Sale, set for today and Saturday.

The sale runs from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight with a free will offering suggested. The sale continues on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours of the mansion, located at 2901 Jackson St. in Sioux City, will be available both days.

Among the hundreds of vintage books for sale are children’s books, mysteries, history books, religious books, biographies, and more. The books were donated to benefit the historic Peirce Mansion with all proceeds dedicated to its ongoing upkeep and maintenance.

Built in 1893 by local developer John Peirce, the home was purchased by the Junior League of Sioux City for $10,000 in 1958. After being donated to the City of Sioux City for use as a cultural building, it served as the site of the Sioux City Public Museum from 1961 to 2011. The mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Since renovations began more than three years ago, the mansion has served as the venue for weddings, birthday parties, graduation receptions, company events and more.
