0Sioux City Trailblazers
The Sioux City Police Department is pleased to announce that Sioux City Fire Rescue is opening their doors to allow the storage of 6 TREK mountain bikes (2 each) at Fire Stations 1, 4 and 7 to allow better access to the trail system for the SCPD volunteer Trailblazers. Fire Station #1 is located on 9th Street near the Perry Creek Trail, Fire Station #4 is located on Dearborn and Hamilton Blvd near another access point to the Perry Creek Trail, and Fire Station #7 is located on Floyd Blvd near the Floyd River Trail in Leeds.
The Sioux City Police Department wishes to thank the current volunteers who assist as Trailblazers and are looking for additional volunteers to assist with routine trail patrol. Trailblazers are Volunteers In Police Service who have been trained by the Sioux City Police Department to provide a friendly, visible presence along the bike trails while acting as extra “eyes and ears” for the Police Department. Each Trailblazer uses a cell phone to call 911 in the event of an emergency, or the non-emergency number to contact Animal Control or to report graffiti. They wear teal colored Trailblazer shirts so they are easy to identify, and white Trailblazer bike helmets (if they ride bikes or roller blade). The Trailblazers can be seen at various times and locations along the bike trails, and have assisted with special projects and community events such as RAGBRAI, the Siouxland Lewis and Clark Marathon, and the annual Tri – State Trail Ride.
