0Siouxland diversity fair set for Sunday
The Sioux City Human Rights Commission will hold its annual multi-cultural fair on Sunday, March 30, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Long Lines Family Rec. Center.
This will be the 23rd year for the fair, called “Faces of Siouxland,” because it reflects the diversity of Sioux City and the region. As in previous years, this event will be a day of celebrating the various cultures in the Siouxland community through cultural entertainment, arts/crafts, information, and food.
This year, more than 40 local organizations will have informational booths at the fair, some offering ethnic foods or crafts for sale. Taste Greek, Mexican, Chinese, and Native American foods.
A diverse array of live performers will fill the day, including Mexican ballet, Greek dancers, East African dancers, a Native American drum, and more. In our “Kid’s Space” children can take part in free, supervised art activities.
New this year are the educational presentations on the third floor including East African History and Culture, an Oromo African Fashion Show, Emergency Preparedness, the Blue Zone and more.
Also new this year is an agency informational outreach meeting focusing on the East African immigrant/refugee community. The meeting will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Room on the first floor. Interpreters will be present.
Faces of Siouxland is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Human Rights Commission at 712-279-6985.
