0Week Ahead: Whiskey, Scoundrels and live music
The Week Ahead is full of music, art, sports and more in Sioux City. And, because our video team is on break this week, this week is in written form. Cheers.
Hit the court
It starts Wednesday with the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship, set for March 11-17 at the Tyson Events Center.
The nation’s top 32 teams will compete in the 24th annual event, with only one team walking away next week with the DII title. Find more info here: http://bit.ly/naia15
Two On Stage
On Thursday, the stylish, sexy and irreverent Dirty Rotten Scoundrels takes the stage at the Sioux City Community Theatre. The show runs from March 13 – 29. Check the SCCT website for specific dates and ticket availability.
Based on the 1988 film, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” centers on two con men living on the French Riviera, both competing at the fine art of stealing money from wealthy women. They attempt to work together but find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. Laughs required.
At LAMB Arts Theatre, Inherit the Wind takes the stage for the second weekend. This riveting play is a fictional work inspired by the famous Scopes “Monkey” Trial of 1925, in which a Tennessee teacher, John Scopes, was charged with teaching that man evolved from apes instead of state-mandated Creationism. The show runs through March 22. Check the LAMB website for specific dates and ticket availability.
Whiskey tasting
Iowa’s own Templeton Rye will be on hand Thursday at the Hard Rock’s Yards Bar featuring tastings of its popular Rye. Enjoy a Manhattan making station and Templeton Rye-inspired food pairings from 5-7 p.m. The event is free, but RSVP by calling 712-226-7619.
Great live music + art
Want to see some incredible local musicians live?
On Saturday night, Titans of Industry – which includes a who’s who of local musicians – will perform at Vangarde Arts from 8-11 p.m. You might remember these guys opened Saturday in the Park last year. Yeah, they are a pretty big deal. The event opens at 7 p.m. with an art show featuring works by Titans member Jamie Bowers.
Arrivederci, Pollock
Also Saturday, the Sioux City Art Center hosts Arrivederci, Pollock! from 5 to 7 p.m.
Join the Art Center for one last hurrah before Jackson Pollack’s “Mural” leaves for Venice, Italy. Local band GhostCat will perform during the event. The Art Center provides delicious food and drink, and of course… world-class ART!
If you missed “Rocking Pollock”, do not miss this free night of fun! RSVP to the Art Center at 712-279-6272.
