Sioux City Farmers Market Opens May 8th

Sioux City Farmers Market

The Sioux City Farmers Market will open for business at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8th at the corner of Pearl Street and Tri-View Avenue on the parking lot for the Tyson Events Center.

The Farmers Market returns this year following four very successful years. Organizers of the Market are pleased to have most of the vendors from 2012 returning and some interesting new items that will continue to help the Market grow as a twice-weekly event and marketplace.

While the late spring has held up some planting, many vendors have started their crops in greenhouses and there will be a variety of products offered immediately. One of the most popular items will be starter plants for sale for the public’s own garden. Additionally, fresh breads, eggs, meats, honey and even shrimp will be available.

All vendors at the Sioux City Farmers market make, grow, breed or produce the items that they sell.

Buy Fresh Buy Local – Siouxland, Inc. (BFBL-S) is the non-profit operator of the Market and is a member of both the Iowa Buy Fresh Buy Local Initiative and the Food Routes organization, bringing fresh, locally produced products to the tables in Siouxland.

Returning for their fourth year as Presenting Sponsors of the summer-long event will be Great Southern Bank and UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s and as Master Sponsors, the City of Sioux City and Woodbury County.

In partnership with the City of Sioux City, the Market will again be located at the corner of Pearl Street and Tri View Avenue on the Tyson Center parking lot beginning May 8th and running each week through October 26th on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00am to 1:00pm.

A formal press conference and ribbon cutting will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
