Walk Your Dog and Raise Money for Noah’s Hope

Even though Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter, we’ve had a little respite recently with spring-like temperatures and melting snow. It makes you think about getting outside and taking your dog for a walk again, right?

Now that idea is even better. Thanks to smartphone app we discovered, you can raise money for Noah’s Hope just by walking your dog. The app is called Wooftrax, “Walk for a Dog,” and it’s quite simple. You go to this website, http://www.wooftrax.com/, and download the app (you can also search for the app on iTunes). There’s a version for iPhones or Android phones. Then you set it up for the shelter or rescue you want to support. Noah’s Hope is on the list for Iowa. You can customize the app with information about your dog(s), even photos. Here’s what the website says about this app:

How does it work? After you download the app onto your smartphone, take the phone with you when you walk your dog(s). Simply press the “Start Walking for …” button and the app will keep track of your walk. When your walk is stopped it is credited to your selected shelter or rescue. The more people walking for that organization, the more we can donate, so please spread the word.

How much and how often do we donate? Our donations to animal organizations are funded by sponsorship, advertising, and investors. We send donations to active shelters and rescues about twice per year.

Please help us help your local animal organization by sharing the app with friends and family. Every walk counts, whether its a quick walk around the block or a leisurely three mile hike. The more people actively walking with the app the greater the benefit for your favorite rescue or shelter.

How will I know when you donate to my shelter or rescue? We will send an email and post on Facebook and Twitter. Be sure to like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter to stay current.

What if I don’t have a dog? Can I still use the app? Absolutely! You can walk for dogs at a shelter or rescue by choosing the “Walk for Cassie” option after enrolling in the app for the first time. Or, create your dream dog as a walking companion by going to the setup tab and adding a dog.

What if I don’t have an iPhone or Android smartphone? While you can’t use Walk for a Dog yourself, you can always walk with a friend who has the app to help support your favorite local shelter or rescue.

Wooftrax says donations are funded via sponsorship deals and advertising, and generally vary from 11 to 25 cents per mile. The amount depends on the number of people who have signed up to walk in benefit of an animal rescue or shelter. The number of people walking and how many times they walk is more important in calculating the donation than the distance they walk, which makes the program good for walkers of all abilities. The Huffington Post reports that in the six months since it was launched, “Walk for a Dog” has distributed $10,000 to the nearly 4,000 animal shelters which have signed up.

See you on a local sidewalk or trail soon!

Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. We rescue the underdogs: the old, the sick and injured, the used-up by breeders, the forsaken and misunderstood. We nurse them, bring them back from the brink, and give them another chance. We believe they make the very best pets because somehow, they understand and are grateful.
